Service overview

IT Services provides training on many of the systems we support including: instructor-led courses, online learning courses (OLC) available via myCourses, and self-serve videos. The courses we offer are not for credit toward any degree or program, however successful completion of most courses is required to gain access to a given McGill IT system.

Refer to the IT Training Index and select a course to see its availability.

tip

Waitlist

Certains courses registered in Minerva offer the option to register into a waitlist when there are no section currently scheduled. This option is not offered in Microsoft Bookings courses but we offer those courses more often so do not worry.

Once you are registered on a Minerva waitlist for a specific course, you will be advised to register to one of the newly added sections when they become available. Once you are registered, your entry in the waitlist will be deleted.

In rare situations, waitlist participants may be enrolled automatically in a schedule section. This includes limited courses, certain ITM courses and other scenarios. Please take note of the instructions in your waitlist registration email.

Best practices & policies

Before you request training registration:
Refer to the *Index of IT training courses and select a course to see its availability. If there are no sessions scheduled, consider putting your name on the wait list on Minerva.

Staff: Obtain supervisor approval
We strongly recommend that any staff pursuing online training offered through IT discuss the time requirements with their supervisors to ensure adequate time will be allotted for completion of all the available material. This will ensure the greatest potential for training success and increase the employee's effective use of his or her time.
