OVERVIEW
Target audience: Entire McGill community.
The following are guidelines for using McGill-owned equipment at home for work-related purposes. These guidelines apply to all McGill faculties, departments, and units, including self-financed units. These guidelines cover all IT equipment owned by McGill University, whether purchased, in whole or part, with McGill funds, capital funds, matching funds, donations, or student funds.

Guidelines
- Except for portable computers and mobile phones, IT equipment that McGill University owns must remain on University premises unless the unit head and associated IT Asset Steward have provided prior written approval for the transportation, installation, and subsequent usage of such equipment off premises. This usage must be substantiated by demonstrated business need.
- McGill IT Services is not responsible for transportation, insurance, and onsite technical support of IT equipment installed for use off McGill University premises.
- When McGill University employees are commonly required to work off-premises, laptop computers, taken to and from the office, should be favored over the fixed installation of IT equipment off-premises (e.g., at home). This will reduce the McGill-owned equipment off campus and help facilitate technical support.
- McGill-owned IT equipment installed off-premises remains the property of McGill University. As such, this equipment must be maintained in an asset inventory by the IT Asset Steward as required by the IT Asset Management Regulation.
- McGill-owned IT equipment must be returned to the University when it is no longer required for use off-premises.
