Service overview

Wireless service is available in all McGill residences and is included as part of the lodging fee.

The Wireless network in REZ supports the WPA2 Enterprise protocol, a secure standard, which requires devices to authenticate with a valid McGill Username and Password; the SSID is wpa.mcgill.ca.

note

NOTE:

If you have devices that do not support WPA2 Enterprise, such as gaming consoles, Alexa, Roku, and Apple TV devices, you can register them and then connect to the wireless network via the WPA2-PSK (pre-shared key) protocol, using SSID mywifidevice.mcgill.ca. For instructions see the article Register and connect a WiFi device with an assigned password.

Frequently asked questions

Can I connect multiple devices such as my laptop, game console and wireless phone to wireless, using the same account?

Yes, provided you own all the devices.

Can I connect my device to the network if it doesn't prompt me for my McGill username and password?

See Register and connect a WiFi device with an assigned password

Can I connect a printer to the wireless network?

No, unless the printer is WPA2 Enterprise-ready. Most wireless printers do not support WPA2 Enterprise encryption. Note that most Residences have at least one uPrint device in the building; this is an advisable alternative to owning your own printer, as they are more economical and environmentally friendly.
