McGill's campus software program includes a wide range of software applications for use by the campus community.

  • The term "Faculty", used below, includes Professors Emeriti, with an appointment.

Tip for faculty, staff and researchers:

If you would like McGill to provide a specific software or cloud service, first verify that we don't already have an approved cloud solution that meets your needs. See McGill Approved and Rejected Cloud solutions. If no solution meets your needs, please submit a request via the Software or cloud service acquisition webform.

Endpoint protection for work computersFaculty & Staff
Endpoint protection software is installed on McGill-managed work computers and computers in public areas on campus.
We recommend that all McGill students, faculty and staff members install an antivirus software on their personal devices, or use the antivirus protection that comes with their device.

LimeSurvey

Faculty & Staff, Student in a limited fashion for thesis and special projects
LimeSurvey is limited to McGill faculty and staff for research or administrative purposes. Students working on a thesis or special project may use the tool if  sponsored by a professor or a McGill staff member. 
Any other use of the survey tool  will be denied.

Mathematica (Wolfram Research) Students, Faculty & Staff

1. Create a Wolfram ID. You MUST use your McGill email address. Confirm your ID via email.

2. Request the download and activation key:

3. Click the "Product Summary page" to access your license.

4. Click "Get Downloads" and select "Download" next to your operating system.

Once an activation key has been created, the license will show up in your Wolfram User Portal page.

Respondus (Respondus, Inc.)

Faculty & Staff 
Download and install versions for Mac and Windows from the Software Licensing site.

SAS (SAS, Inc.)Students, Faculty & Staff
Download from the Software Licensing site.
Requires the provided license to install.

License renewal steps:

A) Download the SAS license again from the software site:

  1. Sign into the software site
  2. Click on the arrow at the top-right, beside your name.
  3. Click Your Accounts/Orders
  4. Find your SAS order and click View Details.
  5. Click Download
  6. Download the license file.

B) Install the SAS license again:

  1. Close SAS.
  2. From the Windows search box > type in Renew SAS
  3. Right-click Renew SAS Software and select Run As Administrator. If a User Access Control dialog box appears, click Allow.
  4. Browse to the location of the file you downloaded in step A, select it and click Open.
SigmaPlot (Systat)Faculty & Staff
Download from the Software Licensing site.
Requires the provided license to install.

Slido

Faculty & Students
Slido is a web-based polling application via Webex.

SMART Notebook SoftwareFaculty & Staff
This software is installed in classrooms that contain SMART interactive displays. Instructors who wish to use their own laptop in these classrooms may install the drivers and ink from the SMART Tech website.

SnagIt (TechSmith)

Students
Access at many public computers on campus

Faculty & Staff
Download from the Software Licensing site.

Requires the provided activation code to install.

SPSS Statistical SoftwareStudents, Faculty & Staff
Download from the Software Licensing site.

SPSS can be installed on systems owned by faculty, staff, and students for the purpose of teaching and non-commercial academic research.

Toad for Oracle (Quest Software)
Faculty & Staff
Access to the software is subject to approval. Please contact the service owner and provide department, description of need and usage details. 

Tool for Oracle Application Developers, more widely known as Toad for Oracle is part of a database management toolset used to manage relational and non-relational databases using SQL.  It is aimed at database developers, database administrators and data analysts.

The software license agreement between McGill and Quest is valid until June 27, 2026 and does not extend to any installation on personal devices.

This license agreement covers the use of the Base Edition and Database Admin Module.
