OVERVIEW
Target audience: entire McGill community.
There are many factors which can either cause or contribute to a paper jam; while not all are preventable, the list below covers a number of contributing factors which are.
Unique power outlet
Whenever possible, make sure the uPrint device does not share an electrical outlet/power bar with other equipment. The device needs a consistent source of power to run, even as small as a toaster, can cause disruptions in the power flow, leading to a paper jam.
Paper
- Always store paper in the original packages on a flat surface or a shelve.
- Try to use complete packages when refilling the machine’s trays.
- Avoid using loose paper, or paper form an open package, that has been stored for more than a few days. Paper absorbs moisture, and the resulting texture change can cause a jam.
- Don't use paper that is deformed, curled, damaged, or cut in any way.
- If there is an arrow indicator on the paper packaging that directs you to insert the paper in a certain way, make sure to follow it.
- Don't overfill the paper tray. Make sure that the top sheet is at least 2cm under the limit line.
- Make sure you change the paper type before printing on glossy paper, a transparency, or any paper type that is not the standard white type.
Hardware failure
Occasionally, hardware failure can cause a paper jam. If you have followed all the above Do's and Don'ts and still have a paper jam, please submit an issue for uPrint.
