Service overview
Audiovisual Installation and Modification service:
- Provides consultation services for AV equipment purchases and installations in conference rooms and other non-classroom spaces on campus, including new buildings and facilities, for all projects paid for through a McGill FOAPAL.
- (A flat-rate fee of $300 will be charged for an Audiovisual consultation. Should the client wish to continue with a project after the consultation, the consultation fee will be deducted from the project total.)
- Determines and approves the types of audiovisual equipment installed permanently in University buildings.
- Tests new equipment to establish norms of usage, and to recommend IT solutions packages.
- In close collaboration with Procurement Services, IT Services reviews all proposed purchases of AV equipment (e.g., projectors, microphones, cameras, videoconferencing units, etc.) to make sure they meet the McGill standards.
Audiovisual equipment recommendations
Note: We recommend AV equipment (e.g., portable video data projectors, wireless microphones, projection screens etc.) that is compatible with McGill standards.
Technical Support for AV equipment:
- Provides best-effort onsite technical support
- Provides troubleshooting/diagnosis of reported technical or operational challenges
- Determines actions needed to resolve the reported technical issues.
- Coordinates offsite repair of damaged/defective AV equipment.
- Recommends replacement AV equipment.
NOTES:
Upon request, IT Services provides installation and modification services for audiovisual (AV) equipment in departmental conference rooms, private rooms, and other non-classroom spaces.
** Audiovisual equipment additions and upgrades in public classrooms must be initiated and approved by Teaching and Academic Programs (TAP).

Who can use this service
All McGill administrative units, faculties, departments and research groups are entitled to use this service.
How to request & access the service

NOTE:
This webform is not to be used to request alterations to audiovisual equipment in public classrooms (i.e., rooms in which you have been assigned to teach). To request updates or additions to audiovisual equipment in public classrooms, please contact Teaching and Academic Programs (TAP) .
Cost
Installation or modification:
- A flat-rate fee of $300 will be charged for an Audiovisual consultation. Should the client wish to continue with a project after the consultation, the consultation fee will be deducted from the project total.
- A detailed quote is prepared after a budget estimate has been made and capital funding is confirmed.
Technical support:
- Technical support for AV equipment in private rooms is a billable service (time and materials)
- After the diagnosis of the reported problem, a budgetary estimate of the work, including the cost of labour, any needed materials, fees for necessary repairs and/or equipment replacements, will be presented to the client for approval.
- AV Technician: $68/hr
- AV Programmer: $100/hr

We keep track of the latest equipment and technological solutions and sometimes will recommend equipment based on this expertise.
What do I need before meeting with us?

Do I always have to pay for installing technologies in teaching spaces?
Not always. You can ask your faculty representative in your teaching space working group for funding. You can also contact Teaching and Academic Programs (TAP) to find out how to request funding for teaching spaces.
Can I install any equipment in the classroom?
Any permanently installed equipment must be approved by us. The use of portable equipment is not regulated.
