McGill's Web Management System (WMS) includes a number of roles with different permissions.
Every site has a Site Sponsor and a Site Administrator.

Site Sponsors are typically the head of a unit e.g., Dean, Chair, Director, Senior Manager, or someone specially delegated to take on this role. It is recommended that sites have only one Site Sponsor.
They are authorized to request additions and/or changes to the list of Site Admins, Site Managers, and/or Site Editors to WMS sites that are under their purview. They may also request for a site to be created or deleted - these two things cannot be done without their express permission.

The Site Sponsor has no permissions to edit or manage the website, and therefore no training is required. If a Site Sponsor would like to be able to view unpublished content on a site, they will need to request the Site Reviewer role.
It is essential that a site have a Site Sponsor to act as the decision maker for the site. When a Site Sponsor leaves a department, they should transfer the role (Site Administrators can also make this request).
In addition to having the same permissions as a Site Manager (see below), Site Administrators have access to additional specialized features that can significantly impact a site. It is recommended that sites only have one Site Administrator, but a maximum of two are allowed. It is their responsibility to oversee the content and structure in order to ensure the overall quality, "look & feel," and objectives of a site:

A Site Reviewer has access to view pages and other site content that is "unpublished" (not visible to the general public). A user with these rights cannot make any changes to the content.
Usually, this level is used by supervisory personnel for review of site content prior to publishing.
No training is required for this role.
