OVERVIEW
Target audience: Site Administrators, Site Managers, Site Editors
WMS users can add images to web pages using the Add media link within a Gallery node, or directly from My Workbench > Create Content tab > Upload Media. The procedure is similar for either method.
Note: The image properties specified are displayed differently depending on how the image is used.
In this article:
Adding an image to your page
There are two options for adding an image to your page:
Uploading a new image to your web page
To upload a new image:
- Navigate to your page and click New Draft, or locate the page within the My Workbench tool and click edit.
- Place your cursor in the WYSIWYG editor window where you want the image to appear and click the Add Media button on the toolbar.

- Click Choose File. Select the image you want to upload from your computer.
- Once you have chosen your file, click Upload. Click Next to continue.
- The Embedding window opens. Specify how your image should be displayed, as well as the image attributes.
- The Display as dropdown list allows you to specify the size you want to display: Default, Small, Thumbnail, Large, Extra large, Original, Download Link. (The Colorbox option is non-functional.)

NOTE:
When using the Original display setting, images should have the appropriate width, otherwise they will overlap with other page elements. The recommended maximum image widths are as follows:
- Full-width pages (no sidebar or vertical menu) - 960 pixels
- With sidebar only - 730 pixels
- With vertical menu only - 745 pixels
- With sidebar AND vertical menu - 525 pixels
- Display with allows you to choose the following display options:
- No border,
- Border, or
- Border and image caption
- Image caption is a brief text that will appear below the image when the Border and image caption option is selected, or when the image is inserted in a Gallery where the Show title and description option is selected.
- Alt Text is the text that is read aloud by screen readers. It also appears on screen if the image cannot be displayed. For more information see Accessibility and usability standards in the Web Management System.
- Title Text is displayed below the image when the user rolls their mouse over it.
- Credit is used to store information about the photographer/creator.
- File title is displayed when you choose Download Link as the Display Option.
- License settings for this image allows you to specify the copyright licensing, which defines how others can use this image.
- For more information see Image Credit and License settings in the WMS
- Click Submit, at the bottom of this window to complete the procedure. Your image should now appear in the WYSIWYG editor.
If you want to change the "default" settings for an image, you can go to the File List tab of the Workbench. Changes made to the image attributes via File List will be used for all images subsequently added from the Library, but these changes will NOT affect images that have already been placed on other pages within your site.
If you want to change other display properties of the image, such as alignment, right-click on the image and select Image Properties.
Save your page to view the new draft with the image. To publish the page, select Published from the Moderation settings dropdown and click Apply.

Inserting an existing image from the Library of images on your site
If you have already uploaded an image to your Library, you do not need to upload it again.
To insert an existing image from the Library:
- Follow Steps 1 and 2 of the Uploading a new image procedure. The Select a file window will appear.
- Click the Library tab. Select the image you want to add to your page.
- Continue the Uploading a new image procedure from Step 5.

Managing images
Site managers have the ability to add, delete, and manage images and other files anywhere throughout the web site. See Managing files and images in the WMS.
