Recording audio in myCourses

The audio capture tool allows both students and instructors to record and post audio files in .wav format within Announcements (Instructors only), Discussions and Assignments.

NOTE:

The recording experience differs depending on which web browser you use. With Chrome and Firefox, you can now attach a pre-recorded audio file, in addition to recording directly within myCourses.

 

Recorded audio will appear as one of the following links, below the discussion message, announcement, or assignment description:

Steps to add audio:

  1. Access the page for creating an announcement, discussion post, or assignment.

  2. Click Record Audio.

  3. Your experience will differ depending on your browser:
    • If you use Internet Explorer or Edge: The first time you open the capture audio feature, the pop-up window for Adobe Flash Player Settings will appear. Select Allow.
    • If you use Chrome or Firefox: A message will appear below your address bar when you try to change your microphone settings or record audio. Click Allow (or click the camera icon on the right side of your address bar) to give myCourses access your microphone.

  4. The recording screens differ depending on your browser:

    Internet Explorer and Edge

    Chrome and Firefox

    To start recording, click the red record button.

    To start recording, click New Recording.

    While you are recording, the record button will have a ring around it.

    While you are recording, Stop Recording will be highlighted.

  5. To stop the recording, press the red record/Stop Recording button. You can press the record button again to create a new recording.

  6. Press the play button to play back the recording and make sure it worked.

  7. When finished recording, click Add*

    * If you are using Chrome of Firefox, you will see an additional screen asking you to enter a title and description for your recording. You can skip this extra step by leaving the fields blank and clicking Add.

  8. Submit your message or assignment.

To remove a recording, click the red X beside the audio file.
