OVERVIEW
Target audience: McGill students, staff and faculty
This article provides instructions on how to manually create a wireless profile on macOS 10.7 and higher.
The wireless profile created in the example below uses the wpa.mcgill.ca network. Depending on your McGill location, you may want to create a wireless profile using one of these other McGill networks:
Before beginning, make sure you have the latest macOS updates.
You will find the instructions for both the latest version and older versions of MacOS below.
Instructions for MacOS Sonoma (latest version):
- Click on the Apple symbol and select System settings.
- Click on the Network icon.

- Below the Other networks section, click on Other...

- In the network configuration window, enter the following...

- Network name: wpa.mcgill.ca
- Security: WPA/WPA2 enterprise
- ...set the mode to Automatic; then enter your McGill Username and McGill Password in the Username and Password fields
- Click OK.

Older MacOS Versions
- Click on the Apple symbol and select System Preferences…

- Click on the Network icon.

- Click on Wi-Fi in the pane on the left, then click the Advanced... button at the bottom right.

- Click on the Plus Sign (+) to add a new network connection.

- Enter the following...
- Network name: wpa.mcgill.ca
- Security: WPA 2 enterprise
...set the mode to Automatic; then enter your McGill Username and McGill Password in the Username and Password fields and click OK.

- Drag the networks up or down in the list to specify the order of priority for connection, e.g., they will be attempted in this order.

- Click OK and then click Apply.

At the top of your screen, you can click on the drop-down menu (WiFi symbol) to ensure wpa.mcgill.ca is selected as your wireless network.
