OVERVIEW

Target audience: McGill students, staff and faculty

This article provides instructions on how to manually create a wireless profile on macOS 10.7 and higher.

The wireless profile created in the example below uses the wpa.mcgill.ca network. Depending on your McGill location, you may want to create a wireless profile using one of these other McGill networks:

Before beginning, make sure you have the latest macOS updates.

  1. Click on the Apple symbol and select System Preferences

    System Preferences...

  2. Click on the Network icon.

    Click the network icon

  3. Click on Wi-Fi in the pane on the left, then click the Advanced... button at the bottom right.

    Advanced options

  4. Click on the Plus Sign (+) to add a new network connection.

    Enter network name

  5. Enter the following...
    • Network name: wpa.mcgill.ca
    • Security: WPA 2 enterprise
...set the mode to Automatic; then enter your McGill Username and McGill Password in the Username and Password fields and click OK.

    Enter username and password

  6. Drag the networks up or down in the list to specify the order of priority for connection, e.g., they will be attempted in this order.

    Set the right order

  7. Click OK and then click Apply.

    Click Apply

At the top of your screen, you can click on the drop-down menu (WiFi symbol) to ensure wpa.mcgill.ca is selected as your wireless network.
