The McGill Shuttle Bus Tracker is a mobile-friendly website that lets you see where the McGill inter-campus shuttle buses are within their routes. It is based on Google Maps, so you can see the map of Montreal, and can follow the icons that represent each of the four shuttle buses. Click on a bus icon, to view data such as the bus speed and last update. If you don't see any bus icons on the map, try zooming out first.
The Shuttle Bus Tracker website is open to the general public.
The inter-campus shuttle buses themselves are only available to McGill students, faculty and staff members. See the Shuttle Bus website for details on riding the bus.
In order to use the service you will need the following:
To access the Shuttle Tracker, point your web browser on your computer or mobile device to: http://shuttle.mcgill.ca
There is no cost associated with this service. However, if you keep the web page open for long periods on your smartphone or tablet, you may incur data transmission costs from your Internet Service Provider.
The McGill Shuttle Tracker website is available 24X7, but will only display the location of the buses from 7am to 7pm. It displays the location of the regularly scheduled buses, which are equipped with wifi, but does not display information about temporary/replacement buses.
Because this service relies on data transmitted from the wireless access points within each shuttle bus, it will not work if there is a problem with the wireless service on the bus. Find out more about the wifi service in buses at: Wireless Connectivity on McGill Inter-Campus Shuttle Bus
If the website is down for any scheduled or unscheduled maintenance, an announcement will be posted on the home page of the IT Support website (www.mcgill.ca/itsupport).

Who came up with the idea for this service?
This service was initiated by a McGill student, named Maxym Malynowsky, who contacted IT Services with the idea and code for the initial proof of concept.
What if I have an idea for improving this service?
We encourage you to send feedback and enhancement ideas to the IT Service Desk and the service manager will take them into consideration for future development.
The Shuttle Bus Tracker can require transmission of a large amount of data because the map refreshes data from the server every 10 seconds. If you are accessing it on your smartphone or tablet, be sure to close the web page when not in use to avoid unnecessary data charges from your Internet Service Provider.
None available.
