- Pinning Channels Events and News in the WMS

OVERVIEW

Target audience: Site Administrators, Site Managers, Channels Editors

An event or news item can be pinned to the top of a Channels Events or News block in the Web Management System (WMS) using the Sticky at top of lists option.

This ensures that the event or news item, and its primary image (if applicable), stay prominently displayed at the top of the block even if other events/news items would normally appear first, in chronological order.

Note: Although the Promoted to front page option appears by default, it is non-functional for Channels items and therefore not listed in the instructions below.

How to make an event or news item stick to the top of the Channels block

Create a new event/news item, or access an existing or imported Channels event/news item on your site.
In the Publishing options tab, check off Sticky at top of lists.
Click Save.

How “Sticky at top of lists” works

Sticky at top of lists can be applied to any item that appears in your Channels Events or News block, whether it be:

A new event/news item while you are creating it.
An existing event/news item that was created previously on the site.
An existing event/news item that has been imported to the site from the Channels hub.

Note:

When an event/news item is imported to another site, it reverts to the default Publishing options even if Sticky at top of lists was checked off when the item was first created on the source site. Therefore, Sticky at top of lists only needs to be re-enabled (checked off) if the Site Manager wishes to promote the imported item on their site.
If there is more than one event/news item set to Sticky at top of lists, these items will appear in chronological order with the earliest event/news item appearing first.
For the primary image to display correctly, the Channels Events or News block should not be placed in the Sidebar region. It needs to appear in either the Bottom of content/Bottom of page or Top of content/Top of page regions. The Sidebar region is not wide enough to allow the image to display.
Keep Sticky at top of lists in mind when several people are working on a site. If an event/news item remains at the top of the block for no apparent reason, verify the item’s Publishing options to see if Sticky at top of lists was checked off.
