Pulse app for myCourses - students


OVERVIEW

Target audience: Students

Pulse is a mobile app that can help students stay connected and on track with their courses in myCourses. It provides one easy view of course calendars, announcements, readings, assignments and grades on mobile devices.

When instructors make announcements, upload content and create assignments with due date in myCourses, students will receive notifications about it and will be able to view the information in the Pulse app.

Limitations:

Some uploaded content (e.g. videos) may not be viewable in the Pulse app. We recommend to log into myCourses when you are not able to view the content in the Pulse app.


Downloading the app

Logging in

After you have downloaded the Pulse app, log in by following these steps:

  1. Open the app by tapping the Pulse icon pulse icon on your device.
  2. Tap Get Started.
  3. In the Find your school or institution search box, type "McGill." 
  4. From the search results, select one of the following options:
    • myCourses – McGill University
    • McGill University School of Continuing Studies (Note: Only select this option if you are a School of Continuing Studies student using the Athena system)
  5. Log in using your McGill username and password.

FAQ

I don't see any updates in the Updates tab or I cannot access my course documents, announcements, grades, etc.
When you initially log into the Pulse app, new updates will not appear. However, as your instructor adds new content and announcements, you will see the new updates.

Percentage values don’t appear for any of my activities
While the Pulse app can retrieve data from your courses in myCourses, it cannot determine percentage values for individual activities. Percentage values is an independent tool for students to attribute their own value to the activities and it is not related to their course in myCourses.

I don't see updated course content in the Updates tab
Course content updates only appear in the Updates tab if the instructor checks of the box Notify students that the content has changed option for the updated content in myCourses. Contact your instructor for more information.
