OVERVIEW
Target audience: Site Administrators, Site Managers, Site Editors
Scheduling is a feature in the Web Management System (WMS) that enables content to be published or unpublished at a specified date and time.
In this article:
How to use Scheduling
Scheduling is available for the following content types:
- Article
- Basic Page
- Channels Event
- Channels News
- Webform
- Click on the EDIT or NEW DRAFT tab and scroll to the bottom.
- Click the tab labeled Scheduling options.
The interface may look slightly different depending on the content type and user role, but the same fields should be available:
Set the Publish on and/or Unpublish on date and time in YYYY-MM-DD hh:mm:ss format.
- Publish on
- Can be used to delay the publication of Basic Pages or Channels items until a specified time.
- Unpublish on
- Can be used to expire a node when the information is no longer current.
- To schedule content to be published AND unpublished, the Unpublish on date should always be later than the Publish on date.
- Click Save.
IMPORTANT:
Scheduling runs approximately every 15 minutes. This means if a page is set to be published tomorrow at 10:00 a.m., it may remain unpublished until 10:15 a.m.

When to use Scheduling
Scheduling allows publishing and unpublishing of content to be automated.
This is useful for:
- Ensuring that information on a site remains current.
- Scheduling the release of time-sensitive information.
Scheduling can also be useful when organizing events. For example, Channels Events can be set to unpublish on the day the event ends. As well, to gauge attendance before finalizing event details, a registration form could be created that would only be available for a limited time.

Scheduling and the Moderation state
If content is set to be published at a later date, ensure that the Moderation state stays on Draft or Needs review. If the Moderation state is changed to Published after the scheduling options are set, this will override the Publish on date.
Caveats
- Publish on should only be used for unpublished nodes
- It should not be used to publish revisions on published nodes as this will un-publish the node, essentially locking it until the specified date and time.
- The node will remain unpublished despite any attempt to override the scheduled publication using the MODERATE tab.
- Nodes may continue to appear as drafts
- There are cases when a node retains a pink background even when published.
To resolve this:
- Edit the node.
- Remove the date and time in Scheduling Options.

Scheduled content and associated displays
Before using Scheduling, it is recommended to consider how unpublishing can affect content that is distributed and/or appears on other displays:
- Unpublishing will remove distributed Channels content from the Channels hub and from any Channels blocks that are pulling in that content.
- If Channels Events Search is enabled on a site, unpublishing a local Channels Event will remove it from all displays, including the searchable archive of past events on /events/search.
- Unpublishing an Article will remove it from any Article blocks, Article category listings, or related content displays.
