OVERVIEW

Target audience: McGill student, staff, faculty, and alumni that wish to use an environment-friendly search engine.

As part of McGill’s responsibility to address the urgency of climate change, we encourage students, staff, faculty, and alumni to install Ecosia and contribute to reforestation initiatives across the globe. Ecosia is a search engine that donates its profits towards tree plantation efforts. Learn more about Ecosia here.

Install ECOSIA - Tree planting search engine in Chrome

  1. In Chrome, go to:https://ecosia.co/McGillUniversity
  2. Click Add to Chrome

  3. Click Add Extension:

  4. Congratulations! You have successfully installed Ecosia – the tree planting search engine!

To remove ECOSIA from Chrome

  1. In Google Chrome, click on the Extensions button.

  2. Select Manage extensions.
  3. In the Ecosia extension block, click Remove, the click Remove again to confirm.

  4. Ecosia has now been removed.

Install ECOSIA - Tree planting search engine in Firefox

  1. In Firefox, go to:https://ecosia.co/McGillUniversity
  2. Click Add to Firefox

  3. Click Add when prompted for your permission.

  4. Click Yes to make Ecosia your default search engine.

  5. Congratulations! You have successfully installed Ecosia – the tree planting search engine!

To remove Ecosia from Firefox

  1. In Firefox, on the top right corner select the menu button, then click Add-ons.
  2. In the Manage Your Extensions menu, click on the three dots beside Ecosia, then click Remove.
  3. Ecosia has now been removed.

Install ECOSIA - Tree planting search engine in Safari

  1. In Safari, go to:https://ecosia.co/McGillUniversity
  2. Click ADD ECOSIA TO SAFARI

  3. You will be redirected to the App Store; then click the Get button.

  4. When prompted, enter your apple ID and click Get.

  5. Click Go to the Safari preferences, and enable the extension.

  6. Under Safari extensions, click the box next to Ecosia.

  7. Congratulations! You have successfully installed Ecosia – the tree planting search engine!

To uninstall Ecosia from Safari

  1. Go to Preferences and select Extensions.
  2. Find the Ecosia extension in the list and click Uninstall.
  3. When you see the pop-up message, click Show in Finder.

  4. In the Applications menu right-click on Ecosia and select move to trash.

  5. Ecosia has now been removed.

Install ECOSIA - Tree planting search engine in Microsoft Edge

  1. Go to https://ecosia.org/McGillUniversity
  2. Click the Get button on that page.
  3. Click Add extension when prompted.

To uninstall Ecosia from Edge

  1. Click the settings icon (three dots) in the upper right corner of the screen.
  2. Select Extensions > Manage Extensions.
  3. Click Remove. below the Ecosia search engine extension.
