Service overview

We are transitioning to a new Student Admissions system which allows prospective students to complete and submit applications to programs at McGill, and allows admissions officers and departmental coordinators to review and manage those applications. Currently applications to Graduate Studies, Undergraduate Law, Medicine and Dentistry and Post-Graduate Dentistry are using this system.

The system supports the following features:

Applicants:

  • Complete profile information, including personal information, contacts, education history including GPA.
  • Receive automated communications to help guide them during the process
  • Upload media files (audio and video) for music applications
  • Upload unofficial transcripts and other required documents
  • Complete referees contact information and update if necessary
  • Submit applications to graduate programs, and track the progress of their application reviews online
  • Pay application fees and tuition deposit when required
  • Accept an offer of admission, or request to defer an offer of admission to a future term

Referees:

  • Complete a form to answer department/program-specific questions to support the applicant
  • Recommend an applicant to a program by writing reference letter statements OR
  • Upload a letter of reference as a PDF document via the secure online Student Admissions system

Reviewers (internal or external):

  • View application details, required documents that have been uploaded, letters of reference, and test scores via the secure online Student Admissions system
  • Rate the applications, and provide comments about the applicant

Graduate Program Coordinators (GPC):

  • Validate self-reported GPA
  • Review recommendations
  • Recommend to admit
  • Refuse, or waitlist applications
  • Create questions and document requirements that can be asked of the applicant

Admissions officers:

  • Review applications
  • Review gradate departments' or reviewers' recommendations
  • Accept, refuse or waitlist applications
  • Release decisions and issue decision letters
  • Monitor and clear conditions of admissions

Security:

Security officers manage permissions within the system for the various users and groups

How to request & access the service

Applicants:

Administrative and support staff including McGill faculty and GR departments:

Academic Reviewers:

A list of reviewers will be submitted by the departments or faculty admission offices to Enrolment Services System team and they will create users with the required accesses.

Academic reviewers have to be granted access using the sis-security webform.  The GPC/GPD of the department should submit the webform on their behalf, through

Cost

There is no cost associated with this service.


Availability

The service is available 24 X 7, except during scheduled and unscheduled maintenance.

Training & documentation

Online training for GPDs and GPCs is available on myCourses: Student admissions in Slate.

Registration for SLT 100 is through Minerva. The SLT 100 training course covers general navigation and how to review applications in Slate for Graduate programs. Training for the remaining programs and videos covering all Slate roles will be available soon.
