Important:

The file request button is readily available on OneDrive but not on SharePoint sites by default. If you wish to enable this feature on SharePoint, kindly request it when applying for a new SharePoint site or by completing the Generic IT Request form on the IT Support site. Upon activation, the feature will enable the “Share with Anyone Link” functionality, which then gives you control over this setting.

Please note that this makes your site potentially publicly accessible, so exercise caution to avoid sharing any sensitive information. While activation allows users to create “Anyone with the links”, it does not make the site public by default, aligning with our intention to avoid enabling “Anyone with the link” sharing by default.

What is the "request a file" feature?

This feature is used when site owners request or allow submission of files from other users. Use the “request a file” feature in OneDrive or SharePoint to choose a folder to which others can upload files using a link that you send them. People you request files from can only upload files; they can’t see the content of the folder, edit, delete, or download files, or even see who else has uploaded files.

Navigating the "request a file" feature

Refer to the Microsoft support article titled “Create a File Request” for guidance on using the feature, including detailed instructions on actions such as initiating file requests, responding to file requests, and troubleshooting.
